As many folk are posting, here's my map of visited states. Most of these are states where I've attended cons, or taken family vacations. I do not include the many states I've driven through on the way to other states, or where I did no more than stop for gas, or change planes.

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed."
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them

Statistically, I've read 34 out of 100 (which isn't really accurate, since several are series listed as single items, so that's +6 for Rowling, +2 for Pullman, +?? for Shakespeare, +5 for Lewis).  Of those 34, 10 were required reading in high school or college.  Interestingly, there is only one on the list that I haven't read which I definitely intend to read.  There are others that I may pick up some day, but which I wouldn't say I intend to read them at this time.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

Ask me seven questions. Not just any seven questions though. No, to keep it interesting, use the seven questions as per below - just copy and paste the following, replace the blanks with something you want to know/ask (e.g. 3. Chicken or egg and why?), anything you want, personal, silly, surreal or deep, comment away and I'll answer honestly as I can! Then post this in your own LJ and see what kind of things people want to ask you!

1. What do you think of _____________ ?

2. When did you last ____________?

3. __________ or ___________ and why?

4. What did you ______________?

5. What's your favorite ______________?

6. How would you ______________?

7. Who would you most like to ________ ?

TOP TEN REASONS THE TREK UNIVERSE IS BETTER THAN REAL LIFE

 by Sean P. Fodera

10.  It’s perfectly obvious that everyone over the rank of Captain is either insane, traitorous or under alien influence, and therefor deserve to be ignored.  If only such traits were as easy to recognize in our superiors.

9.  The Deflector Array can be adapted to more new uses than Arm & Hammer Baking Soda.

8.  Replicated food is always prepared perfectly to the individual’s taste, right down to the temperature.

7.  Long distance calling is very easy.  Kirk never ordered Uhura to call collect, or wait until Free Nights and Weekend Hours before contacting someone light-years away.  (And he never got a busy-signal!)

6.  Turbolifts always arrive promptly when needed, unless the crewman is having an important conversation in the hallway, in which case they wait until the crewman is finished speaking.  Starfleet crews don’t have to stand around making polite small-talk while waiting, or have to finish a conversation through closing doors.

5.  There will always be another shuttlecraft available next week after one has been destroyed (even in the Delta Quadrant).  If only the local garage could pop a dent out of a fender in less than four weeks.

4.  A red shirt makes the future very clear, whereas a pink slip arrives unannounced.

3.  No one is late for work because some idiot pulled the emergency brake on the transporter.

2.  The Universal Translator makes it unnecessary to learn new languages.  Can we add this feature to the new credit card readers in New York City cabs?

and, the Top Reason The Star Trek Universe Is Better Than Real Life…

1.  No matter how many holo-novels, holo-simulations, or holodeck adventures the crew saves, they never run out of disk space.  (My hard-drive maxed out about three-and-a-half years into its five-year mission.)

My blog is worth $6,774.48.
How much is your blog worth?

Did you notice that in the past three weeks, when I've only posted three posts about my children, and one about my birthday, my blog value has nearly doubled? If you had any doubts about the validity of this particular blog widget, feel free to air them out. I expect you are right to question the results.

Of course, it's always possible that lots of bloggers are linking to my kids' little league exploits than I know about. :)

Being up until 2am sorting financial documents and credit card receipts for tax prep has left me very fuzzy-headed.  I need to do something fairly mindless to get started today, so here it is, picked up from [info]kradical.

And now I might possibly be ready to face the day.

Caption contest looking for voters

  • Nov. 9th, 2006 at 8:17 AM
Sean
[info]jaylake is having a contest on his LJ. A short time ago, he posted a very nice photo of himself and his dad. Foolish though it may seem, he asked readers to propose captions for the picture. I have entered one based on Jay's penchant for wearing Hawaiian shirts. I won't specifically ask anyone to vote for me, but if you've got a moment, pop on over there to read some fine witticisms. Vote as your conscience directs.  (Just for the record, mine was doing respectably until [info]kradical started "pimping the vote" to his hordes of readers.)
